It’s All in the Cables at CommScope

In today’s global economy, reliable communication systems are mission-critical to business. To help ensure that vital information networks stay plugged in, CommScope Enterprise Solutions, a division of CommScope Inc. (CTV), is teaming up with IBM Corp. (IBM) on a Fiber Transport System, or FTS, S-Line solution — a fiber-optic cabling system that can be integrated into IBM’s Portable Modular Data Center, or PMDC.
PMDCs allow for quick installation and deployment in any environment. With this system, IT departments can easily expand their data-center capacity to address bandwidth needs. How quickly new servers can be up and running is often determined by how complicated the cabling system is, says CommScope Senior Vice President Luc Adriaenssens.
An advantage is that by using these high-density, pre-terminated cables, customers can reduce the number of cables they need, thereby reducing the amount of energy used. “It’s a much greener solution,” Adriaenssens says.
