Honeywell’s 4 Business Units

1. Automation and Controls Solutions (2009 sales: $12.6 billion) Makes environmental controls, including the thermostats most consumers associate with the Honeywell brand. Other products include complex control systems for operations such as refineries and manufacturing; fire and gas detection devices (pictured); and security systems.

2. Aerospace ($10.8 billion) Makes products for commercial planes and helicopters and is contracted by the U.S. government for defense and space technologies. Manufactures jet engines, guidance systems, safety avionics and more, including Micro-Air Vehicles — autonomous surveillance aircraft (pictured).

3. Specialty Materials ($4.1 billion) Includes a chemicals portfolio with products ranging from nylon and nonexplosive fertilizers to Honeywell Green Jet FuelTM technology (pictured) and processes that serve the refining and petrochemical industries.

4. Transportation Systems ($3.4 billion) Makes Bendix brakes, Fram filters, Autolite spark plugs and Prestone antifreeze. Honeywell is also the world’s largest manufacturer of turbochargers for both automotive and large engine applications. Pictured are turbine wheel castings.
