Methodology

In 2010, Time Inc. Content Solutions, on behalf of NYSE Euronext, commissioned Infogroup | ORC, an independent global strategy and market research and consulting organization, to conduct the NYSE Euronext CEO Report, the sixth annual survey of CEOs of listed companies. A questionnaire was administered via the Internet, phone and mail from March 3 to March 31, 2010, generating 325 responses from leaders in two dozen industries and 22 countries. Of that total, 182 responses were from the U.S.; 108 from Europe and the U.K.; 11 from Latin America; nine from the Asia-Pacific region; and responses from Canada and South Africa. Some 21 percent of companies had $3 billion or more in market capitalization; 24 percent had $1 billion to $3 billion; 18 percent had $500 million to less than $1 billion; and 37 percent had less than $500 million. Although respondents reported a median CEO tenure of five years, 18 percent had been in that position for less than three years, and 33 percent for 10 years or longer. In June, 215 CEOs answered a second round of questions in the wake of the financial crisis in Greece.
