In 2011, NYSE Euronext commissioned ORC International, an independent global market research and consulting organization, to conduct the NYSE Euronext CEO Report, the seventh annual CEO survey. An online questionnaire, administered July 7 through August 2, generated 317 responses from CEOs of NYSE Euronext-listed companies based in 27 countries. Of that total, 194 responses were from the U.S., 89 from Europe, 10 from Latin America and seven from the Asia-Pacific region. Canada, South Africa and Bermuda also are represented. Some 25 percent of companies had $3 billion or more in market capitalization; 21 percent had $1 billion to less than $3 billion; 12 percent had $500 million to less than $1 billion; and 42 percent had less than $500 million. Although respondents reported a median CEO tenure of eight years, 15 percent had been in that position for less than three years, and 33 percent for 10 years or longer.
This year, in addition to listed-company CEOs, ORC polled two other participant groups: 119 CEOs of private companies (most of which are private-equity- or venture-capital-backed) in the U.S. completed the online survey on August 15 through 29, and 205 U.S. MBA students on July 7 through 13. These CEOs were asked the same questions as listed-company CEOs, while MBA students were only asked questions relevant to their experience.
