In My Own Words: Patrick Doyle

Patrick Doyle, CEO of Domino's

Bridget Barrett

PATRICK DOYLE: The 13-year Domino’s veteran takes over through a detailed and formalized CEO succession process.

My first job was...as a maintenance worker at a tennis club. I’m still a pretty good tennis player.

The biggest lesson my parents taught me was...that you have to earn people’s respect. My father worked for The Dow Chemical Co. (DOW) for 32 years. At his retirement party, I had 10 people tell me that this big company had just lost the nicest man who ever worked there.

My management style is...collaborative. I love wandering the halls, sitting down in someone’s office or cubicle, and saying, “Hey, what do you think about this?”

My biggest career challenge was...2008. It was brutal. We had soft sales and record-high costs, and the markets seized up at the same time.

My favorite item on the Domino’s menu is...a thin-crust Pacific Veggie pizza. I absolutely love it.

When I’m not eating pizza, I eat...Cuban food. My wife is Cuban, and she is a phenomenal cook. Her ropa vieja, a shredded-beef stew, is the best.
