Northeast Utilities: Plugging In
for Progress

We see strong potential in electric transportation as one of the tools to help meet the environmental and energy policy objectives of our regional and national leaders,” says Northeast Utilities System (NU) Chairman, President and CEO Charles Shivery, who adds that as plug-in vehicles are introduced, Connecticut-based Northeast Utilities wants to be sure that New England is among their first markets. The company says it is collaborating with other utilities, policy leaders and private entities on charging- station infrastructure strategies.
Electric-vehicle market readiness is one part of Northeast Utilities’ project to provide more efficient energy options across all of its business units, observes James Robb, senior vice president of enterprise planning and development. “Because of our scale and geographic reach within New England,” he says, “we are in a unique position to provide leadership to, and make a difference in, the region’s energy landscape.”
