In My Own Words: Fabio Barbosa

If I had to name one leader I admire, it would be...race-car driver Ayrton Senna, the Brazilian Formula One world champion who was killed in a crash in 1994. He said, “I have no idols. I admire hard work, commitment and competence.”

If you had asked me when I was a little boy what career I would have when I grew up, I probably would have said...I had no real concrete plans at all. I just wanted to get prepared and work hard. I always knew the personal growth would come as a consequence of hard work.

The best piece of advice I could give to a young person just starting a career in business would be...to be firm in your values and beliefs. That is the most important thing in a career. I just bought the book Conscious Business: How to Build Value Through Values [2006] by Fred Kofman, in which he says, “Beyond success lies the serene joy of integrity.” I truly believe it.

The qualities I most admire in people are...ethics and transparency.
