Ford Builds a Sustainable Network

Ford Fusion Hybrid owners speak green online.

How do you build community among customers while raising awareness about the environment? Ford Motor Co. (F) says it has found a way: Its new online application, You Speak Green, allows customers to share tips on sustainable living and take an active role in creating a green world in a fun way, says Sue Cischke, Ford’s group vice president of sustainability, environment and safety engineering.

The Facebook application (apps.facebook.com/ford-fusion), she explains, also helps build brand recognition for Ford’s gas and hybrid Fusion cars. Like the SmartGauge instrument in Fusion Hybrid vehicles that indicates their fuel efficiency, You Speak Green features graphics depicting a vine to signify sustainability, Cischke adds. User tips on leading a more sustainable lifestyle are displayed on the vine.

“Ford recognizes that beyond choosing the most fuel-efficient transportation, many of our customers are already engaged in taking steps to help protect the environment,” Cischke says. “And these communication tools are important for both the company and our customers at a time when we all have a role to play in creating a sustainable world.”
