A $1.2 million grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority will enable Anheuser-Busch InBev NV (BUD) to convert the engines of 22 of its New York City-based fleet of diesel-powered delivery trucks to run on compressed natural gas, or CNG, which emits 25 percent less carbon dioxide than diesel fuel or gasoline, according to the company.
Anheuser-Busch, which says it commands a 49.2 percent share of the U.S. beer market, explains that it is considering expanding the CNG engine program to other parts of the state and throughout its U.S. wholesaler network. “Anheuser-Busch has a long history of environmental stewardship,” says Ed Fitzmaurice, general manager of the company’s New York City wholesaler operations. “This is just another example of an environmental initiative we are implementing to help us meet our goal of being the best beer company in a better world.”
